Summary

Many health professionals desire to practice inclusively and to be accepting and supportive of sexual and gender diversity.  Understanding LGBTIQ will help increase your confidence in engaging with LGBTIQ patients and fills the information gap about how health professionals can better interact.

This course offers practical tips and “dos and don’ts” that will help you work with patients to achieve better health and wellbeing outcomes.

In the 2020-22 triennium this program is acrredited as a 4 point CPD Activity under the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) CPD Program, and 2 Educational Activity hours with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).

Program Content

Understanding LGBTIQ

At the end of this program, you should be able to:

  • describe the differences in biological sex, gender and sexual orientation and how culture shapes perceptions of gender and sexual orientation
  • describe the different presentations of sexual orientation and biological sex and gender
  • demonstrate an increased awareness of the health impacts of discrimination and violence on LGBTIQ communities
  • understand the impacts of the attitudes of health workers on the health outcomes for LGBTIQ communities
  • adopt a safe and inclusive medical practice/practitioner approach for LGBTIQ people.
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Completion certificate provided on completion
  • Accredited as a 4 point CPD Activity under the RACGP CPD Program in the 2020-22 triennium
  • Accredited with ACRRM in the 2020-22 triennium for 2 Educational Activity hours
