Pro Start Anaesthetics

Accreditation
  • ACRRM recognises this program to satisfy the core clinical training requirements in anaesthetics for candidates undertaking the FACRRM
  • Accreditation is dependent on:
    • successful completion of the entire program
    • a minimum of 15 supervised sessions in theatre (3.5 hours per session)
    • completion of a logbook of theatre sessions and undertakings to indicate the work done
  • The program requires supervisor sign-off that the activities have been completed satisfactorily
Duration
  • 18 month subscription
  • Participants usually complete the program within 6 – 12 months
Supervision
  • Participants are required to source their own supervisor and theatre sessions. This is usually a GP anaesthetist, but may be a specialist anaesthetist. The supervisor will assess the activities and verify the logbook records.
  • On enrolment, we will ask for your supervisor’s name and email address to create a login and provide access to the Pro Start Anaesthetics program via the ModMed learning platform. It will be up to you both to manage the theatre sessions, modules and activities.
Clinical activities
  • Pro Start Anaesthetics consists of 11 modules. Each module contains clinical activities to be completed.
  • Topics covered:
    • Preanaesthesia Assessment
    • Anaesthetic Machine and Equipment
    • General Anaesthesia
    • Muscle Relaxants
    • Airway Management
    • Breathing and Ventilation
    • Circulation
    • Procedural Sedation
    • Regional Anaesthesia
    • Postoperative Care
    • Obstetrics and Paediatrics
  • The program is designed to be completed through a combination of readings, prescribed activities (with assessment by the GP anaesthetist supervisor) and hands on in theatre work over 15 theatre sessions (3.5 hours per session).
Theatre work
  • The learning is supported by a clinical attachment in the theatre setting. Theatre logbook sheets, activity sign off and module feedback forms are included to record progress and achievements.
