Medication Management

  • 5 hours
  • In order to successfully complete the Medication Calculation Competency course, you need to achieve a score of 100%. You have unlimited attempts at each section of the competency assessment.

Course Content

  • 130 minutes
  • How to assist clients with their medication after identifying the level and type of physical assistance or supervision required.
  • The ways medications are classified and documentation associated with their administration based on hygiene and duty of care procedures.
  • Identify lines of authority, accountability, and actions to be taken to handle contingencies.
  • 20 minutes
  • Perform metric calculations and conversions for oral tablet and capsule doses, oral mixture and solution doses, intramuscular and subcutaneous injection doses, and IV therapy fluid volumes and rates.
  • 90 minutes
  • How the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards are applicable to invasive device management and the risks and measures to prevent infections posed by PIVC insertion.
  • The equipment required to successfully insert a PIVC, how to prepare patients for PIVC insertion and the recommended processes for inserting, maintaining and removing a PIVC.
  • 60 minutes
  • How to safely administer medication and reduce the risk of an adverse drug event occurring, by identifying key risk points as well as prevention strategies.
